Dozens of foreign offenders with no connection to Iceland are currently serving sentences in Icelandic prisons.
Preparations have begun at the Icelandic Prison and Probation Administration and the National Commissioner of Police’s Repatriation and Escort Division for the removal of foreign offenders from Iceland. Under amendments to the Execution of Sentences Act approved by Parliament on Monday, foreign inmates may now be granted parole after serving one-third of their sentence.
